The optional wireless LAN adapter GW-NS11S or GW-NS11H is required to use the product as a wireless LAN print server.
* WEP Encryption Protects Data (Wireless
Only)
The product utilizes WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) to encrypt data sent over
a wireless network, making it virtually impossible to decipher should someone
intercept the data by any chance. The Mini100w supports 40/128bit WEP and converts
data signals to more than one trillion patterns.
* Supports USB Printers
The Mini100w provides a USB port as its printer interface, and achieves considerably
faster transfer of print data compared to the conventional scheme that involves
a parallel cable. Being USB compliant, the product also supports Hot Swap and
other handy USB features.
* Supports IPP (Internet Printing Protocol),
a standard protocol of Windows2000
The Mini100w employs Windows 2000's built-in printing protocol called "IPP"
to enable printing via intranets and the Internet.
[Merits of IPP Compatibility]
Sending a document to a remote user over a network usually requires the sender
to attach the document to an e-mail message and send it to the other party.
In this scheme, the recipient must also open and print out the attachment. If
the receiver has a printer with IPP support, on the other hand, the sender can
directly print the document on the receiver's printer. In other words, the new
scheme:
- Frees the receiving party from the need to open and print out an attachment
- Saves the trouble of starting a PC just to receive and print out the file
- Directly provides a printed copy of the document to the recipient, whether
or not the receiver has the software the sending party used.
- Totally eliminates the cost of fax calls if data is sent over the Internet
rather than by fax.
